Link Building Archives

If your website or blog is struggling to gain page rank in Google and other major search engines, may be a key SEO tactic you are likely missing. That tactic is one way link building. But, the way it has been taught makes it out to be a tactic reserved for search engine optimization experts. There is a right way to build hundreds of Google backlinks and Yahoo backlinks within a few weeks.

There is a new system that could be the answer to this problem, especially for article marketers, one that guarantees hundreds of free one way permanent links simply by writing and submitting articles in a new way. They claim it is the future of article marketing. In fact, the creators claim it has no disadvantages! This review looks at the system to see if it is plausible.

The Plus Side of Article Marketing

The advantages of using article marketing to build backlinks have long since been proven.

As article marketers, we know that Google, Yahoo, and other search engines thrive on quality content. Search engines reward the creators of new, useful, and informative content with better search engine rankings.

Embeded within that high ranked content are links leading back to the website or blog of the creator of that content. Each backlink to that highly ranked content is actually a vote for the creator of that content and gives the creator’s website or blog higher visibility.

Quality content with hundreds of one way backlinks will land you on the first page of most search engines. The result is a flood of targeted traffic leading back to you. This is how article marketing has worked.

In the past, “link love” from search engines towards backlinks from articles was super successful as a traffic generator. For many years, article marketers profited nicely even though the content they created was marginal quality. Quality content was not necessary because there was not much competition for keywords and search engine position. The truth is, backlinking was pretty much a method known only by SEO experts and some savvy marketers. They dominated the search engine rankings for years for their desired keywords.

The Negative Side of Article Marketing

Today, article marketing is a lot more complex. Keyword research tools are readily available and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of courses teaching how to write quality content that is keyword rich. And, as if article marketing was not fiercely competitive already, content thieves have entered the scene and have added another twist that makes article marketing tougher that ever.

Some of these thieves will republish your article but they may delete your backlinks from your Author Box, claim authorship, or insert their own backlinks to steal your hard work and traffic.

This is a big problem for writers trying to get backlinks with articles the traditional way.

Once you have submitted your article to any of the article directories, you lose control over your article when it is published. You cannot blame article directory administrators. They are glad to have your quality content so they leave your writing intact should they decide to publish it.

One of the major ways your content can be stolen is by “scraping.” Article thieves are using software that automatically crawls through article directories to “scrape” the articles, by category, for republishing elsewhere. These software bots provide the thief with your finished article. Then, all they do is change the article Title slightly and the insert their own backlinks in your Author Box.

In addition to stealing your entire work from article directories and automatically altering backlinks in your Author Box, they use other kinds of software to skim just a snippet of your article. Many times they skim just the first few lines or a complete paragraph of your article.

They publish your snippet to a list of many others so they can populate their sites with content to attract the search engines. Remember, search engines love fresh content. In this case the thief includes a link back to the article directory. This tactic is used to create so-called made-for-Adsense sites.

The site creator knows, when a visitor gets to the site and sees nothing but a bunch of snippets, they likely will click on one of the Adsense ads and the site creator makes money. These guys have hundreds or thousands of such sites and make a bundle with this tactic.

The “Free Traffic System” Could Be The Answer

The creators of Free Traffic System have a large number of member blogs in a wide variety of niches. They guarantee that their member blogs, where your writing is published, will retain your backlinks. You would think that such a claim cannot honestly be backed up. Well, as it turns out, Free Traffic System has found a way to virtually eliminate the problem of plagiarism.

Administrators of Free Traffic System monitor their member blogs. Those blog owners who replace your backlinks will be deleted from the Free Traffic System and lose access to future quality content. Surprisingly, this has yet to happen.

What About The Duplicate Content Penalty?

The issue of duplicate content is debatable. Some SEO experts say there is no such thing. Others say there certainly is and it can cost you.  Here is the argument for the duplicate content penalty. You decide.

The argument is: When your original article is republished on numerous sites, like article directories, Google quickly classifies this content as duplicate content because the algorithm reads that a large number of your backlinks are being linked from sites carrying your identical writing and linking back from them to you.

While there is no hard proof that Google will punish your backlinks, those who support the duplicate content argument claim that Google dramatically lowers the SEO value of backlinks built from duplicate content pages and lowers your page rank.

Rather than further debate the issue, I would rather be on the safe side and avoid it completely. The creators of Free Traffic System agree and have provided an easy way of spinning articles automatically for you.

The Mega Article Spinner

Free Traffic System has built in software that spins your articles to make each of your articles unique, even if the article is republished on a large number of blogs, to be seen as one-of-a-kind content.

All you do is take your original article, do some simple editing, and Free Traffic System automatically creates dozens, even hundreds of versions, that make sense to the reader. These are not the kind of garbled spun articles you are used to. You know the type I mean.

In addition to spinning the Body of the article, you even have the ability to spin your Title and Author Box.

You determine the depth of editing and the content. You can dedicate 5 minutes or 30 minutes to get this done. It’s fairly simple and fully explained at Free Traffic System. The end result is that each of the articles will be seen as unique for Google and other search engines. And, this will instantly increase the value of your backlinks. Proof is provided by members to show how easy this system is.

To give you an idea of how powerful this is, one spun article can generate up to 60 one way backlinks. You do the math.

What is Link Popularity?

No company likes sitting idle in web space. It is extremely painful for them to realize that they are falling miserably short on traffic as this implies oblivion for the company. Companies use SEO firms to rise on the ladder of Google ranking. Obviously higher Google ranking determines higher traffic for the site; this invariably materializes to greater sign-ups and subsequently higher revenue-generation.

This also brings us to the concept of link popularity. It fathoms the extent to which a website is visible on the net. Put simply, it is the cumulative figure which corresponds to the external websites that link to the site and the inbound links which a website keeps. Google is choosy and fairly prudent in judging a site’s well-being.

In Google’s eye, a link’s popularity is judged by the quality of website it adheres to and not the quantity by itself. This probably explains why people try floating their article in reputed web directories and the directories produce stringent norms for the acceptance of an article. In this regard, themed search engine optimization plays a great role.

Good link popularity helps a site avail myriad benefits. Primarily it opens access area for traffic to visit the website. With enhanced link popularity, quality traffic is just few meters away.

Top search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN do not only look at the website content for giving it a thumb up in ranking. It also measures a website’s link popularity. They look for back links to judge approval gained by the particular website from other websites. Google may be attracting brickbats for its shabby algorithms and sandbox techniques but its Page Ranking technique is quite above par in analyzing the back links. It meticulously judges the anchor texts and the authenticity and relevance of the back links.

Let’s take an instance. Two websites have a same theme. In such an event, link from website A to website B using a text that comprises of keywords pertaining to website A will increase the authenticity of website A in the eyes of Google search bots.

Champion search engines look for links to cache web pages. More links for a website implies they will be cached frequently. Frequent caching is truer for sites regularly updating their content.

Link popularity can be enhanced through exchange of links. This fact is a microcosm for life. We spread to a greater territory by exchanging, sharing and developing ideas. Websites just need to focus on finding related websites and requesting them for an exchange of links. Participation in forums, blogs and myriad new groups across the web scene help in increasing popularity.

Websites often create affiliate programs. This certainly enhances the number of incoming links. By far the most fruitful way of increasing link popularity is to align to online web directories. Such directories are behemoth of articles and blogs floated by different sites. They have great mass appeal and are accessed by extremely high number of traffic; needless to say, if they accept a company’s submission, it stands a great chance of being siphoned by Google.

The worrying factor for such online directories is certain recently introduced unethical practices within their domain. Online directories are using company’s e-mails for selling to third parties which then use it for nefarious junk mailing like selling Viagra online. . Further they take a lot of time for accepting submission.

Before aligning to an online directory for increasing link popularity, it is important to judge whether a directory has sold its services to a networking unit. In such an event all the article-seekers for a particular online directory are flooded by futile newsletters from the networking group. This can be quite harassing.

How To Get Listed In The Yahoo! Directory

Yahoo! is a directory, NOT a search engine that sends out spiders to cruise the Web. Yahoo is selective. To get listed, your site has to “make the cut” and it’s tough to get a listing. Don’t mess with Yahoo; follow their procedures and rules strictly.

It’s important to keep in mind that the Yahoo! directory is not a search engine. Yahoo! is a directory edited by humans. When you submit a site to Yahoo!, you will be submitting only a site title and description that will be reviewed by a genuine human being…not an automatic and unattended software spider.

The people at Yahoo value their reputation as providers of high-quality, relevant websites. Real, live people evaluate every submission. The key to getting listed is great content. Yahoo doesn’t want to degrade their product by including poor sites. Make no mistake, those Yahoo! category editors will pare down your submission at their sole discretion.

Only Quality Sites Need Apply
So if you have a poorly written, badly constructed, or crassly commercial site, don’t bother. Only a quarter of all sites submitted to Yahoo ever make it in. Your site should:

Be substantial — if yours is a single-page site, don’t bother.
Have value — good content and/or a unique product that is well presented.
Be clean and fast loading.
Show a professional, polished layout, with a solidly-designed look and feel.
Be easy to use, including a simple, clear navigation system.
Contain good grammar and spelling.
Have its own domain — not essential but it helps.

Prepare Your Answers
Before you submit, prepare the following information in a separate text document (let’s call it your “prep sheet”) that you’ll use to copy and paste data into the Yahoo submission form. Here’s what you need to prepare:

1. Title. If you have an especially important keyword that customers would use to find you, make sure it appears in the title. If you add promotional language, they’ll cut it out. Yahoo still returns search results alphabetically by title, but don’t play the alphabet game with Yahoo.

2. URL. Yahoo permits you to submit only one URL per domain. In most cases, you will submit your root URL (http://www.you.com). If another URL is more appropriate, submit it instead; then justify that submission in the Final Comments section of the Yahoo submission form. There is an important consequence to the “one URL” rule. If you sell a single product, Yahoo will be your most important source of traffic. The larger and more diversified your product line, the less important Yahoo becomes.

3. Description. Use your keyword at least once in your description. You are supposed to be allowed 25 words in your description, but at 25 words, you’ll likely get edited down, and thus lose control of the wording. Instead, set yourself a 15 word maximum. Use a single sentence without commas. Don’t make your description promotional or the Yahoo editor will chop it out.

4. Categories. Since yours is a commercial venture, you must list somewhere in Yahoo!’s major category of “Business_and_Economy.” Search for competitive products and see where they’re listed. Enter the most likely keyword for your product into Yahoo!’s search engine, and you’ll probably bring up several high-potential categories.

Copy the URLs of your two chosen categories and paste these into your prep sheet. Yahoo may grace you with a listing in only one of your categories. So list these URLs in order of importance.

5. Contact Info. Type your full name and e-mail address. Make sure your e-mail address has no typos in it. Then list other company information.

6. Final Comments. Add a short blurb about the value of your site — content, traffic, satisfied customers, etc. If you have to explain something about your submission, do it here, too.

Yahoo! will ask if you think it should create a separate category in which to list your Web site. Don’t do it! As enticing as this might sound, resist the temptation! If Yahoo! grants your wish for a new category, you have no way of knowing whether or not that new Yahoo! category will be displayed for any of your keyword searches: Remember, the key to a great Yahoo! submission is to assess your site would rank if Yahoo! accepted your submission verbatim. You can know with certainty which Yahoo! categories are displayed and in which order when different keywords are queried, but you will not know if the new category you proposes will come up for any of your targeted keyword phrases. So, do not suggest a new category. Leave that pioneering opportunity to someone else. You can always ask to be added to a new Yahoo! category later.

Finally, if your site is accepted, celebrate! This is a major accomplishment.

4 Quick Ways to Build Quality One-Way Links

Obtaining quality one-way links is often cited as the “Holy Grail” of online success. Especially if you take the SEO route for getting high rankings for all your profitable keywords in the search engines. It’s no wonder then, achieving top spots for your valuable and popular keywords should be the ultimate goal of any webmaster or online marketer.

How well you do in this “link quest” will largely determine the success or failure of your site or online business. Assuming of course, you’re going after free organic traffic from the search engines and not using PPC (Pay Per Click) or other means of succeeding online.

Link building and achieving top placements in the search engines (especially Google) has been my main objective for over ten years of online marketing. It has been a constant daily struggle to build those quality one way links and to get those top rankings and keep them.

Over the years, I have tried hundreds, if not thousands of link building methods in order to get those links. I would like to discuss briefly some of these methods and then explain in full detail my four favorite and most effective proven ways to get quality one-way links.

First, some general tips on how you should approach your link building from the get-go. You must realize the web is based on content; web surfers/users are looking for quality content. If you can supply valuable content that the surfers want, you will build your links naturally. People will see your content and want to link to it. This process is often referred to as link baiting – you make your content/offer so irresistible, they will not only want it but they will go out of their way to tell others about your fantastic content.

Quality content is the first key to link building but there are many more. Especially if you take a more “hands-on” approach to actively building your quality one-way links.

Be careful not to link to “spammy” link farms and it’s probably a good idea to always check the Gooogle PageRank PR of any site or page you link to on the web. Many cautious webmasters/marketers won’t link to anything less than a PR3 page but use your own judgment here.

Buying links is frowned upon by Google but many webmasters and marketers do use this method to purchase embedded one-way links with their chosen “anchor text” which is the clickable, underlined part of a link. Actually, over time big business will probably dominate most, if not all of the “profitable keywords” on the entire web. They have the resources to “buy” their way to the top and this process will only accelerate, despite Google’s objection or efforts to stop it. Money talks, morality walks.

In any case, most starting webmasters don’t have the resources to buy links and it’s much more easier to get them through free methods on the web. There are numerous ways of getting quality links:

. place your links in directories – free and paid
. join online forums and place your links
. do recommendations and testimonials
. viral videos with your embedded links
. join social media sites like MySpace, Facebook, etc.
. use hub traffic sites like Squidoo and Hubpages
. use Google sites like Google News, Google Docs, Google Knol . use Wikipedia to build links
. use Yahoo Answers and those types of sites
. use eBay and sites like Craigslist
. use viral ebooks and software programs

Now, I have used all of the above link building methods and many more over the years but I would like to explain to you my most effective link building techniques since these are the proven methods that have worked for me. For in the end, we can only discuss our own marketing experiences and what has worked for us. No doubt you may have heard of many of these link building methods before… but here goes:

Article Marketing

This is still one of the most effective ways to build good one-way links to your site. I know this is “old school” but it still works. At least for now, there are rumors Google is cracking down on article links but for now links in your article resource boxes are still very effective.

From my own experience, article marketing is my most effective technique at building links. My sites and my online marketing were going nowhere until I started writing articles. Now I do aggressive article marketing using all the major online article directories…

The Top 5 I Use Are:

www.ezinearticles.com www.goarticles.com www.isnare.com www.ideamarketers.com www.buzzle.com

Now just look at my stats from ezinearticles alone and you will know why I use them.

Account Statistics

Articles Views: 421,327 Profile Views: 2,573 Articles Published: 4,787 URL Clicks: 49,480 Emailed: 115 Live Articles: 203

I have roughly 200 articles which have been viewed over 400,000 times which has sent around 50,000 visitors to my sites. Plus, I have around 5,000 places where my articles are published. And this is only for one online article directory – I have my articles in hundreds of them. It all adds up to a lot of links and traffic. For a good popular viral article I can get 2,000 to 3,000 links spread across the web.

Whether you’re just a webmaster or into online marketing you must realize all this stuff is a “numbers” game. The more content you have out there, the more links you have on the web – the more traffic and visitors you get coming to your site. It’s not rocket science, it’s simple math. The more links you have, the higher probability someone will click them and come to your site.

The same goes for high rankings in the search engines, the more good quality links you have, the higher your rankings. Article marketing will give you highly targeted keyword links to your web pages. I also use SubmitYourArticle which will automatically submit my articles for me to many different article directories. I use this service to save time but you can hand-submit your own articles.

One last point about article marketing – you’re not just using articles to build links, you’re also using articles to “pre-sell” yourself, your site and/or your product. It’s a very effective way of funneling interested visitors/buyers to your site. Many of my sales are already made before visitors reach my site.

AddThis Bookmark

Now I am not really into the “social media” sites but that has not stopped me from using them to my advantage. And it would be a BIG mistake not to use these social media sites for your own link building.

Sites like MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, Twitter, Digg, Linkedin… and thousands of others are very important for link building. They are becoming even more important as Google moves away from articles and focuses on the “real interactions” taking place on these sites.

Couple of years ago, I added the free AddThis Bookmark to all my sites. This is a simple code which lets your visitors bookmark your site or content in any or all of the major social media sites.

What’s actually happens is that your visitors are building your links for you. I have gotten hundreds of links from these sites just by placing this simple bookmark on my sites. Truth be told, I nearly laughed at this idea at first – sure visitors to my sites would automatically bookmark and build links for me? No way that would happen?

Wrong again!

This really works, so if you want this simple way of building links just use the Addthis.com bookmark to your site or pages.

Link Building via Google Alerts

This method of building good quality one-way links does take a little more work but it is extremely effective, especially for getting high rankings in Google.

Here’s how it works:

You sign-up for Google Alerts for your major keywords that you’re promoting. Google will send you email alerts whenever a new page/site/link is created containing your keywords. You then go to those newly created pages to make a comment and add your link.

Many of these new pages will be on blogs so you can easily add your comment and link. The trick is to add valuable comments/content which the site moderator will approve because it adds to his/her site’s value. Many will also approve your link because your link is related to their site and this is just good SEO practice.

The key here is to put yourself and your site in the whole discussion of related blogs, sites and forums relevant to your content. You want your site in the whole mix of things so that relevant links will flow naturally from the discussion. Now all your links won’t be accepted but you can easily add 2 or 3 links each day with very little time spent on this. Great way to build links, hope you can give it a try.

Press Releases

I am just starting this method of link building, but what I have seen so far tells me this is a very effective way to build links. It’s not cheap – I use PRWeb and I believe it’s $200 for a release. You can get a cheaper price at around $80 but you don’t get the full benefits at this lower price.

Press releases are very effective because you can embed your links with your “anchor text” into the body of your press release. Other sites pick up your release and place it on their site with your keywords/links embedded. This seems more like natural link-building which the search engines loves, especially Google.

With articles you can only place your links at the end. As Google cracks down on article link building (as many experts believe they will) then using something like press releases will become much more important.

Again, depending on your own marketing budget, press releases can be a very effective way of building links. I have noticed sites going from a PR0 to PR4 in less than 6 months using this method and also getting top 5 rankings in Google in the process. Keep in mind, sites/companies displaying press releases are usually already highly ranked in Google so some of their PR juice is passed on to your site.

I hope this article has given you some fresh ways of building your own one-way links. Consistently build these links to your site over an extended period of months or even years and you will succeed online.
